A pair of masked attackers burst into a house at 45 Warren Street in Brookline through a second-floor porch and assaulted a resident on Tuesday, July 18, according to the Brookline Police Department.

The 61-year-old victim was sleeping in a second-floor bedroom when he was attacked. He suffered a three-inch laceration to the head and was later transported to the hospital.

A second resident heard the struggle and woke up to assist. The second person called the police at approximately 2:17 a.m.

At least one of the suspects had a gun, which was fired just before the pair ran away from the house. No one was injured by the gun.

Police are concentrating their efforts on trying to identify the suspects and learn their relationship to the victim.

There is reason to believe that the incident was not random, Brookline police told Daily Voice.

Police released security footage of the incident, during which one suspect covers a camera with duct tape. This suggests that the suspects were familiar with the home, police say.

The seven-bedroom home last sold for $4,188,888 in 2022, according to Zillow.

Detectives and crime scene investigators also responded to the scene.
